Toyota 4runner tail lights wont turn off. But probably the real fix will be a new switch. They really should call this mod tail as turn and turn as reverse. Either way you pulled the wrong fuse if the lights didnt go out.
The fuse is good. Okay so like the title states my brake light wont come on. If the lights turn off you found your bad component.
My 2000 toyota 4runner tail lights wont turn off after i turn off the engine remove the key from the ignition. Yanked the fuse brake lights stayed on. This mod turns your factory tail light into a turn signal and then turns your turn signal into a reverse light.
I dont know what the problem is or could be. This is with the switch in either on or off position. It does have the auto turn off feature when the lights are left on ignition turned off and door is opened they will automatically turn off.
If so you can try disconnecting the drl relay under the hood the drl module behind the glove box or even the multi switch on the steering column. Even with the key out and all the switches turned off. Try removing the parking lights fuse marked tail from the drivers kick fuse box.
If there is still ground then you have a short to ground inside the fuse box between the two relays. This truck is my daliy. The the red night time driving lights turn lights and backup lights all work.
Didnt get it replaced right away and found the brake lights on again at 1100 pm. The answered by a verified toyota mechanic we use cookies to give you the best possible experience on our website. Disconnected the battery brake lights went off thankfully.
Replaced the switch then but brake lights didnt even go off when we pulled the old switch off. That makes more sense to me than tail as turn backup. As a short term kludge if you need to use the vehicle at night you can put the fuse in and take it out when you park.
Put fuse back in put in new switch brake lights still on. As for the battery dying prematurely at a few years old youe lucky to get 4 years out of a battery especially if the car isnt driven so no doubt it was due to gremlins. When the truck is turned on the switch does what its suppose to and turns the lights on and off.
If there is then unplug the integration relay and test again. If not then the integration relay is most likely bad. Sounds like probably the headlight switch.
Any help is welcome. If the tail lights are illuminated even after you have used the on off switch to command them off that means the switch supplying power is fused shut andor the circuit is being powered when it is not supposed to be due to a wiring fault. If there is no ground here at that point then the taillight relay is bad.
Some other facts to note.
